Peterborough Rotary Partnership

As Premiere partner of HYP, the Peterborough Rotary Club has committed to at least $100,000 as well as mentors and volunteers for the first 5 HYP home projects.

Rotary received 23 funding requests from local community groups and HYP was selected by the members of the Rotary club to partner with.  “We are very excited to be a premiere sponsor of the HYP that reflects the ideals of Rotary – working with new generations, being youth and young adults; and poverty reduction by providing affordable housing.  Our 1.2 million members in 180 countries take pride in fulfilling Rotary’s message of Service Above Self “says Karen Wilson, Chair of Rotary’s HYP Committee.

“We are absolutely thrilled to have the Peterborough Rotary Club as a partner!”  Says Habitat Executive Director Sarah Tate.  “Both organizations share the same values.  We also both have a strong belief in the power of volunteerism and we are both eager to engage and help youth to use their voice to build a better and stronger community”.

On February 4th, 2013, the Peterborough Rotary Club presented Habitat for Humanity’s Youth Program with a $20,000 cheque. This is the first cheque presented to HYP as a part of the overall commitment of $100,000 that Rotary has made towards the goal of building 5 local Habitat homes. This donation will directly fund construction of Habitat’s first Youth Build home, located at 749 Young Street in Peterborough.

Rotary has taken on the role of being the Premier Sponsor of HYP, and have committed to a five year partnership with Habitat for Humanity to be involved in the initiatives of HYP as well as to be mentors to the HYP Youth Council.

Rotary is extremely pleased to support the youth of Peterborough to develop their building skills and instill giving      within their own community to families in need as HYP mirrors Rotary’s own objective of ‘Service Above Self’”  says Atul Swarup from Rotary.
