History

Millard and Linda Fuller founded the Habitat for Humanity movement in 1976 in Americus, Georgia.  Built on the idea of partnership housing, Habitat for Humanity International was established as a non-profit, founded on the conviction that every man, woman and child should have a decent, safe and affordable place to live.

In 1984 US president Jimmy Carter participated in his first Habitat for Humanity project bringing an overwhelming awareness to the organization.

Today, Habitat is building in 93 countries, placing more than 300,000 families into new homes around the world.  A new Habitat home is dedicated every 10 minutes.
